Destinia, a major cryptocurrency-accepting travel booking service, has added Dash as a payment option for a limited selection of flights and services.

Originally reported by Spanish publication MuyPymes, travel booking site Destinia has added several cryptocurrencies, including Dash, to its list of accepted payment methods. However, only certain flights and
services are available for purchase with Dash, and there is no option to explicitly search for that purchase option, as Destinia informed Dash News:
“I inform you that each flight has its methods of payment, if the option you want does not come out, that is, you cannot pay such flight with this method of payment.
Kindly note that in this case there is no way to filter by payment method as availability varies greatly.
What we can tell you is that as a general rule flights that are in less than 48 hours do not usually let pay with crypto currencies and low cost airlines do not usually let either.”
Destinia reportedly began accepting cryptocurrency payments in 2014, beginning with Bitcoin, and only recently expanded to other options.
Expedia’s cautionary tale of formerly accepting Bitcoin
Destinia’s foray into accepting cryptocurrency for travel draws parallels to key competitor Expedia. Also around the same time in 2014, Expedia began accepting Bitcoin payments for flights and other travel services, which ran until 2018. However, similar to Destinia, the service only accepted cryptocurrencies for select flights, with no indication of which payment methods were accepted prior to checkout, and also with no option to filter offerings by supported payment method. This may well have limited the project’s success in generating a significant amount of business in cryptocurrecy payments, and may also apply to the Destinia case as well.
Dash’s travel options have surged
In addition to Destinia, several other cryptocurrency travel options exist for Dash users with more explicit support. Travel booking site XcelTrip integrated Dash last month. At the end of last year Travala integrated Dash for booking travel lodging as well, including a Dash-back discount, and served as the official travel partner for the Dash Convention Europe. CheapAir.com has long served as a go-to for the Dash community, accepting Dash for airfare, lodging, vehicle rentals, and more.
